Lithuanian folklore ensemble “ŪLA”

There flows a magnificent river which bears the name of Ūla in southern Lithuania. In February 1987, some of the folklore lovers organized a new folklore Group, and this name of river was adopted by the ensemble. In 1967 the movement of the folklore ensembles began in Lithuania. The members of the “ŪLA” took part in this movement from the very outset. Now the members of the “ŪLA” play, sing and dance authentic folk songs and dances.

Several programs reflecting spring, autumn works, marriage customs, Shrovetide Carnival, Midsummer Feast themes have been presented at numerous festivals in Lithuania and abroad, including the Latvia, France, Norway, Canada, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Holland, Poland. “ŪLA” recorded a lot of tapes with Lithuanian folk music during the years of its existence.

“ŪLA” was awarded the name of the best Lithuanian folklore ensemble (amongst cities) in the year 2000 and got “Golden Bird” award.

There are about 30 members in the Group now. There leader of the ensemble is Janina Bukantaitė.
